Ryan Routh, 58, indicted for the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, was already facing charges related to a gun incident at Trump's Florida golf course. Prosecutors allege Routh intended to kill Trump during the Sept. 15 incident in West Palm Beach.
Federal prosecutors are pushing for a grand jury to approve an attempted assassination charge, which carries a maximum life sentence. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland called the act 'heinous' and vowed to fully commit resources to the case.
Evidence presented by prosecutors includes a letter hinting at an assassination plan and cell phone data placing Routh near Trump's Florida locations. Routh remains in jail, with his lawyers' bond request denied. He was initially charged with firearm possession offenses.
