The United States on Tuesday announced it was admitting Qatar into its visa waiver program, allowing visa-free travel by Qatari citizens for up to 90 days starting no later than Dec. 1. This makes Qatar the first Gulf country to be admitted to the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, a milestone achieved after meeting stringent security requirements.
Qatar has been instrumental in mediating talks between Hamas and Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, and has engaged in significant diplomatic efforts in other regions, such as Sudan and with the Taliban. The strong defense relationship between the U.S. and Qatar has also been highlighted by administration officials.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken praised Qatar's efforts to meet the program's strict requirements, which include counterterrorism, law enforcement, and border management measures. As a result, both Qatari and U.S. citizens will benefit from extended visa-free travel terms, fostering enhanced economic and social exchanges between the two nations.
