A special court has confirmed there was no illegality in a magistrate's order denying the discharge of Uddhav Thackeray and Sanjay Raut in a defamation case filed by ex-MP Rahul Shewale.

The special judge for cases involving MPs and MLAs, A U Kadam, dismissed the joint appeal of Thackeray and Raut against the lower court's decision.

The magistrate cited strong reasons for finding that the offences are prima facie made out, the special court noted, ruling there was no error by the trial court. Consequently, the defamation case will continue in the trial court.

Shewale, who is affiliated with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, has filed a defamation complaint under IPC Section 500, objecting to articles published in Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece 'Saamana' alleging his business activities in Pakistan.
