Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday urged both Israel and Hezbollah to de-escalate hostilities following a deadly day in Lebanon that left over 500 people dead. Addressing reporters in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, Trudeau emphasized the need to protect civilians.
Trudeau described the killing of women and children in Lebanon as extraordinarily concerning. 'The violence needs to stop. We need to make sure civilians are protected,' he stated.
Trudeau added, 'There must be de-escalation from both sides. We need to ensure peace and stability for the entire region.' Canada has a significant population of Lebanese descent, making Trudeau's remarks particularly poignant.
