In a series of meetings today, Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, alongside Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications, engaged with the newly formed Stakeholders Advisory Committees (SACs) on Telecom Sector Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), and the Tele-Electronic Ecosystem. The discussions centred on transforming India into a global hub for telecom product manufacturing and simplifying business processes in the sector.
Minister Scindia urged all industry stakeholders, including TSPs, global and local manufacturers, and industry associations, to collaborate and work towards realizing the goal of making India a telecom manufacturing hub. He emphasized that the Ministry of Communications is committed to providing full support for these efforts, including the establishment of a 'Telecom Manufacturing Zone'. The Minister also highlighted existing government schemes like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) to promote indigenous telecom product manufacturing, supporting the vision of “Make in India, Make for the World” for telecom products.
During the meeting with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), Minister Scindia stressed the importance of adhering to global standards and ensuring customer satisfaction. He noted that customer inconvenience, especially from issues like telemarketing and bulk messaging, must be addressed, with clear options for users to accept or decline such communications. He also encouraged TSPs to provide top-quality service to consumers and urged them to advocate for telecom product manufacturers to set up production facilities in India.
In addition, the Minister suggested creating a security architecture to ensure compliance with security-related regulations and enforcement, which would enhance the overall security of the telecom environment.
The SAC on the Telecom Electronics Ecosystem discussed the creation of global telecom manufacturing giants with research and development (R&D) capabilities and an intellectual property (IP) ecosystem in India. Topics such as access to markets for Indian-made products, One Nation – One Standard for testing and certification, and resolving policy issues under the Public Procurement Preference – Make in India (PPP-MII) scheme were also on the agenda.
The industry leaders expressed gratitude to Minister Scindia and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for their continued support and for fostering an environment of growth and innovation in the telecom sector.
Minister Scindia’s meetings with the six distinct SACs—which include top CEOs, industry experts, researchers, and entrepreneurs—provided valuable insights into advancing India’s telecom sector and achieving its global ambitions. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing end-to-end support for initiatives aimed at establishing a robust ecosystem for indigenous telecom equipment manufacturing with an eye on export markets.
