The Karnataka High Court has upheld the state governor's decision to approve an investigation into Chief Minister Siddaramaiah relating to a contentious site allotment case. Despite this setback, Siddaramaiah and the ruling Congress party have dismissed opposition demands for his resignation, accusing the Modi government of engaging in political vendetta.
Siddaramaiah had initially challenged the governor's sanction in court, arguing against the investigation into alleged irregularities in the allotment of 14 sites to his wife by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). However, Justice M Nagaprasanna ruled that the petition necessitates investigation, dismissing Siddaramaiah's plea.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, the chief minister remained defiant, denying any wrongdoing and asserting that he will face the opposition politically. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar reiterated his support for Siddaramaiah, alleging a conspiracy by the BJP. The Congress party plans to review the court order to determine their next steps.
