The Shimla Police have taken legal action against a former state director general of police and nine other officers for allegedly harassing and wrongfully dismissing a Dalit constable. The charges claim that the constable, with eight years of service left, was dismissed on fabricated allegations.

Meena Negi, the wife of the dismissed constable Dharma Sukh Negi, filed a complaint detailing the alleged mistreatment. She reported the issue to the chief minister, chief secretary, secretary (home), and Shimla SP in November 2023, prompting the FIR.

The complaint states that Dharma Sukh Negi was terminated on July 9, 2020, and was ordered to repay Rs 1,43,423 for delayed vacating of government accommodation. An FIR was lodged under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act following directions from the Inspector General (Southern Range).
