The Election Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards the use of money power in the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. SS Sandhu, made this clear during their review of poll preparedness.
The EC held meetings with various stakeholders including political parties, security forces, and nearly 20 central and state enforcement agencies, emphasizing the need for inducement-free elections. The commission also warned officials against any undue harassment of the public during election checks.
Furthermore, the EC instructed all enforcement agencies to collaborate effectively to curb the inflow of illicit liquor, cash, and drugs, and to focus on action against key offenders. Special attention was called for monitoring Jharkhand's borders with West Bengal, Odisha, and Bihar to prevent disturbance during the elections.
