Israel launched a series of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon as tensions between the two sides escalated on Tuesday. The military action follows attacks on Israeli military facilities by the Iran-backed group, heightening fears of a full-scale conflict after Lebanon witnessed its deadliest day in decades.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed that warplanes bombed various Hezbollah targets, including missile launchers and weapons storage facilities. In response, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for attacking several Israeli military sites overnight, including an explosives factory and the Megiddo airfield near Afula.
The ongoing hostilities come amid a year-long conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, shifting Israel's focus to its northern border. The situation has led to widespread panic and displacement, with over 30 international flights to and from Beirut canceled, and hospitals in Lebanon and Israel overwhelmed with casualties. Diplomacy efforts are intensifying to prevent further escalation.
