Ryan Routh, 58, is being charged with attempting to assassinate a major political candidate after he allegedly aimed a rifle at former President Donald Trump at his Florida golf course. Evidence includes a handwritten letter offering a bounty on Trump and various other incriminating items.
Federal prosecutors announced plans to charge Ryan Routh, 58, with attempting to assassinate a major political candidate, after he was found near former President Donald Trump's Florida golf course armed with a rifle. Routh will be detained without bond until trial on two gun-related charges.
Prosecutor Mark Dispoto revealed that more serious charges are imminent as evidence, including a handwritten letter offering a bounty on Trump, emerges. Routh allegedly pointed a rifle at Trump while he was golfing. The incident's details were outlined in a criminal complaint filed on Sept. 15.
When arrested, Routh's vehicle contained incriminating items including a loaded SKS-style rifle and a list of dates and locations tied to Trump. Authorities have yet to disclose Routh's motive. The FBI is investigating the case as an attempted assassination ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election.
