Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, conducted an extensive review of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) during his visit to the NFDC campus in Mumbai today. As part of his visit, the Minister toured the National Museum of Indian Cinema, including the heritage site Gulshan Mahal, which showcases India's cinematic journey from the silent era to modern times. The museum highlights the significant role Indian cinema has played in shaping the nation's cultural legacy. CBFC Chairperson Shri Prasoon Joshi briefed the Minister on recent advancements in the film certification process and updates on the broader film industry.
Shri Vaishnaw emphasized the need to enhance employment opportunities in the film sector. He urged the creation of commercially viable plans that not only drive growth but also generate high-quality jobs.
The Minister commended the NFDC-NFAI (National Film Archives of India) for their outstanding efforts in restoring and preserving India's cinematic heritage. He underlined the importance of preserving the country's cultural and historical cinematic treasures, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy and learn from them.
Shri Vaishnaw also reviewed the progress of the National Centre of Excellence in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sector, stressing the need for industry-oriented approaches in its establishment. He highlighted the growing significance of animation and visual effects as integral components of India's entertainment industry. Key officials present at the review included Ms. Smita Vats Sharma, Director General, Western Region, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Prithul Kumar, Managing Director (NFDC), and Rajendra Singh, CEO (CBFC). As part of his visit, the Minister also participated in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative by planting a sapling on the NFDC premises, symbolizing his commitment to environmental sustainability.
