The United States has expressed its concern over the Israeli Defense Forces' (IDF) raid and subsequent shutdown of the Al Jazeera office in the West Bank city of Ramallah, according to a State Department spokesperson on Monday.
'This action is inconsistent with U.S. support for freedom of the press in the West Bank and all over the world,' said the spokesperson. The U.S. is continuing to collect details regarding the IDF operation that took place on Sunday, the spokesperson added.
The closure of the media network's office raises significant issues around press freedom in the region, an area where tensions are already heightened.
