Delhi Police are currently verifying a smartphone clip that allegedly shows jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi making a video call to a city-based businessman, demanding protection money. The clip surfaced on social media and has prompted an inquiry by law enforcement officials.

Police sources indicate that the call was made in May last year while the businessman, who owns restaurants and a travel company, was in Dubai with his family. According to an FIR, the businessman first received a call from someone identifying themselves as Bishnoi on May 22, 2023. After questioning the caller's identity, the businessman received a follow-up video call where Bishnoi directly threatened him and demanded Rs 2.5 crore in protection money.

After returning to India on May 30, the businessman kept receiving calls from Bishnoi and his associate Goldy Brar, based in the US. The ongoing threats have been linked to several serious crimes, including the murder of gym owner Nadir Shah, with multiple suspects already arrested. Bishnoi, detained in a Gujarat jail, is implicated in numerous criminal cases, including the high-profile murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala.
