West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again accused the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of exacerbating the flood crisis in the state, claiming she contacted the central government ''at least 10 times'' without receiving a response.

Banerjee accused the central government of trying to privatise the DVC, raising concerns that releasing more water could worsen the floods. She called for one-fourth of election funds to be allocated to the Ganga Action Plan and erosion control in Malda and neighboring districts.

Addressing reporters, Banerjee stated, ''The Ganga Action Plan, flood control, and the DVC fall under the central government, but nothing has been done. That is why this flood is happening.'' Emphasizing her point, Banerjee noted Bengal's repeated, unanswered pleas for action. Since Friday, she has sent two letters to PM Modi seeking intervention.

On Sunday, two Bengal government officials resigned from the Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee (DVRRC) Board post-Banerjee's threat to cut ties with the DVC. Addressing the Purba Bardhaman administrative meeting, Banerjee cautioned against further potential flooding due to continued water releases amidst predicted heavy rainfall. She assured public support and instructed MPs and MLAs to aid affected residents with relief efforts.
