Biden Hosts UAE President: Artificial Intelligence and Geopolitics at Center Stage

President Joe Biden will host UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the White House to discuss advancing artificial intelligence and tech cooperation. Amid concerns over UAE's relations with China, the talks will focus on U.S.-UAE partnership in technology, including a significant Microsoft investment.

On Monday, President Joe Biden will welcome UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the White House, focusing on the Gulf state's ambitious plans for artificial intelligence. These plans have drawn keen interest from U.S. rival China.

The UAE, wealthy from oil and a longtime U.S. security ally, seeks greater access to American technology to bolster its own advanced tech sector. G42, a state-supported tech company, has garnered a $1.5 billion investment from Microsoft, collaborated with Nvidia, and employs supercomputers built by Cerebras Systems.

U.S. concerns over UAE-China relations have led to export restrictions on some American tech to the UAE. Consequently, G42 shed Chinese investments and hardware to align more closely with American firms, securing a major investment from Microsoft.
