Women Demand Forest Rights in Thane Protests

In Thane, over 2,000 women protested for the settlement of forest rights claims, part of broader demonstrations in multiple districts organized by Shramajivi Sanghatana. They have camped in Thane city for four days, cooking meals and performing traditional dances, urging quick action on pending claims and the establishment of Gaothanas.

Over 2,000 women continued their protest for the fourth day in Thane, demanding the settlement of pending forest rights claims. The demonstrations, organized by Shramajivi Sanghatana, were also held in Palghar, Nashik, and Raigad district offices.

Protest leader stated that the women are demanding immediate action from the authorities. Thane collectorate officials disclosed that they are reviewing 1,529 pending claims swiftly.

The women, from 43 villages, have been living on the streets of Thane, preparing meals and performing traditional dances. They also call for a timely implementation of a government decision to establish Gaothanas, aiming to secure their land rights.
