The Himachal Pradesh government has requested the dismissal of Punjab's lawsuit, aiming to prevent Himachal from assuming control of the Shanan Hydropower Project. The Supreme Court is poised to hear Himachal's challenge on November 8.

The dispute centers on a lease agreement initiated in 1925 between the ruler of Mandi and the British government, which expired recently. The Punjab government has sought an injunction to maintain control over the project.

Claiming the agreement has legal binding, Himachal Pradesh argues that Punjab's suit lacks merit. A previous directive by the Union Ministry of Power has asked both states to maintain the status quo on the project.
