Ukraine Denounces Civilian Targeting Claims in Kursk Incursion
Ukraine's foreign ministry spokesman asserted that Ukraine observes international humanitarian law and does not target civilians amidst its operation in Russia's Kursk region. Russia reported casualties but Ukraine disputed these claims, urging access for the UN and the ICRC to verify the situation.
Ukraine's foreign ministry spokesman emphasized on Monday that the country adheres to international humanitarian law and does not target civilians in its current operation in Russia's western Kursk region.
Earlier Monday, Russia had reported that at least 56 civilians were killed and 266 were wounded during the Ukrainian incursion.
Heorhiy Tykhyi, the spokesman, expressed skepticism towards Russia's claims, citing its history of misinformation and propaganda. He urged Russia to provide access to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross for an unbiased verification of the on-ground situation.
