A Delhi court on Monday called for a response from the city police regarding an application submitted by Yasin Bhatkal, the founder of Indian Mujahideen, who is accused of plotting to wage war against India. Bhatkal is seeking custody parole to visit his ailing mother, who recently underwent cardiac surgery.

Currently imprisoned at Tihar Central Jail, Bhatkal submitted the request on grounds of family exigency. The court has directed the Special Cell of Delhi Police to file its response by Tuesday.

Bhatkal faces serious charges in multiple terrorism cases, including a 2012 conspiracy to wage war against India and involvement in the September 2008 serial blasts in Delhi, which resulted in 26 deaths and 135 injuries.
