Currently the adjutant general at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Lt Gen Malik will take over his new role on September 30, succeeding Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum.
This significant appointment is made by the prime minister, typically in consultation with the army chief, reflecting the post's critical importance in security and foreign policy decisions.
With a career spanning several key military roles, including commanding positions in Balochistan and Waziristan, and teaching assignments at prestigious defense institutions, Lt Gen Malik is well-prepared for his new duties.
His appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the ISI, which is instrumental in both domestic and international security matters. Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, appointed in 2021 by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, is set to be succeeded by Malik at the end of the month.
