An army officer and his fiancée, who were allegedly assaulted at a Bharatpur police station, met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday. This meeting, attended also by the woman's father, comes after the state government ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Following the meeting, the woman's father told reporters, 'We had urged the Odisha government for a judicial inquiry and it has agreed. We welcome the decision and thank the CM for this.' Chief Minister Majhi had ordered the judicial inquiry into the alleged torture of the army officer and 'sexual assault' of his fiancée on Sunday evening.

The Odisha government has appointed retired high court judge Justice Chittaranjan Dash to lead the commission. The panel will review the events and actions of individuals and authorities involved, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future while ensuring the safety and security of women. The commission will submit its report within 60 days.
