Japanese Minister Meets Chinese Counterpart Amid Safety Concerns for Nationals
Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa will meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York to discuss enhanced security measures following the stabbing of a Japanese schoolboy in China. The incident has heightened safety concerns among Japanese nationals and strained relations between the two countries.
Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa is set to meet with her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in New York on Monday, according to the foreign ministry.
During the meeting, Kamikawa plans to request stronger security measures following the recent stabbing of a Japanese schoolboy in Shenzhen, southern China. The boy, who attended a Japanese school, died—marking the second such attack near Japanese educational institutions in the region in recent months, as reported by NHK.
In light of the incident, Reuters has reported that some Japanese companies operating in China are considering the repatriation of their staff and families. These rising safety concerns come at a time when diplomatic ties between Japan and China are already under significant strain.
