In a significant move, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has mandated a judicial inquiry into the alleged torture of an army officer and the sexual assault of his fiancée at a local police station.

The inquiry will be conducted by Justice Chittaranjan Das, and findings are expected within 60 days, as per a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). This action underscores the state government's commitment to upholding law and order, with strict repercussions for those found guilty, Majhi asserted.

Simultaneously, the Odisha government has suspended five personnel from the Bharatpur police station and registered a case against them. This suspension follows an incident on September 15, where the army officer and his fiancée were allegedly assaulted at the police station after being harassed by local youths in a road rage incident.
