Odisha Chief Minister Orders Judicial Inquiry into Alleged Torture and Assault Case
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged torture of an Army officer and sexual assault of his fiancée at a police station. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged torture of an Army officer and the sexual assault of his fiancée at a police station.
The state government is committed to taking strict action against all persons or officials found guilty, said Chief Minister Majhi, after consultations with his deputy chief ministers and other senior officials.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Justice Chittaranjan Das will preside over the judicial inquiry, with a report expected within 60 days. Additionally, the Orissa High Court has been asked to supervise the investigation by the Crime Branch of Odisha Police.
The state government has suspended five police personnel and filed a case against them, also arresting and producing in court the local youths accused of misbehaving with the Army officer and his fiancée on September 15.
