The UN General Assembly has approved the 'Pact of the Future,' a comprehensive blueprint aimed at uniting the 193 member nations to combat 21st-century challenges such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and escalating conflicts. This 42-page pact was adopted at the 'Summit of the Future,' initiated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Guterres expressed the importance of turning promises into actions, urging leaders to prioritize dialogue, reform the UN Security Council, and accelerate transitions from fossil fuels. He emphasized the need to listen to young people and include them in decision-making processes.
Despite significant challenges and amendments proposed by nations like Russia, the pact was approved by consensus. The document aims to address various global issues, including poverty, gender equality, and nuclear disarmament, and commits to initiatives like establishing a scientific panel on AI and promoting human rights.
