Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday called for a CBI investigation into the torching of 34 houses in Bihar's Nawada district, which occurred four days ago. The affected homes largely belonged to SC/ST communities. The minister visited Manjhi Tola, under Mufassil police station, where the violence took place.
Manjhi, who founded the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and is allied with the NDA, stated, 'Investigations have revealed that land mafia is involved in this as well as in other similar cases. I have said it several times that out of 100 such cases, involvement of RJD leaders has always been found.'
He further added, 'This incident must be probed by the CBI so that those involved in the incident must be exposed and punished.' Manjhi discussed with the district magistrate and superintendent of police the measures being taken for the victims. The police have arrested 15 people, including prime suspect Nandu Paswan. An FIR has been registered against 28 individuals, and the SHO of the Muffasil Police Station has been removed for his alleged intelligence failure.
