A roadside bomb struck a convoy of foreign diplomats in northwest Pakistan's Swat Valley on Sunday, claiming the life of a police officer and injuring four others, according to local authorities. The attack occurred as the diplomats were visiting the area on an invitation by the local chamber of commerce, aimed at showcasing the region as a potential tourist destination.

'The squad leading the convoy was targeted by a roadside bomb,' stated Swat district police officer Zahidullah Khan. Although no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, it has drawn strong condemnations from Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The bomb detonated while the convoy was en route to Malam Jabba, a hill station and ski resort. All diplomats remained safe and have since returned to Islamabad, as confirmed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammad Ali Gandapur. Pakistani counter-terrorist forces have heightened their presence in Swat Valley, a region plagued by Islamist militant insurgencies.
