DRI Nabs Brazilian Woman Smuggling Cocaine in Capsules at Mumbai Airport

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained a Brazilian woman at Mumbai International Airport, recovering 124 cocaine-filled capsules she had ingested prior to her flight from Sao Paulo, officials said on Sunday.
The estimated value of the seized cocaine is Rs 9.73 crore in the illicit market. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted the woman upon her arrival on Wednesday.
The passenger confessed to ingesting the drug-filled capsules for smuggling purposes. She was produced before a magistrate and subsequently admitted to the state-run JJ Hospital, where she purged the capsules. The DRI confirmed the substance as cocaine based on a field test and seized it under provisions of the NDPS Act.
The woman has been arrested and a thorough investigation is ongoing to uncover other members of the international drug syndicate, according to the official.
