Israeli Airstrike Kills Seven in Gaza School, Sparking Regional Concerns
An Israeli airstrike killed seven people in a Gaza school on Sunday, targeting militants and resulting in civilian casualties. The incident heightened tensions amid broader regional conflicts involving Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Gaza faces looming healthcare shortages and threats of flooding due to heavy rains.
An Israeli airstrike has resulted in the deaths of seven individuals at a school in Gaza City, according to Palestinian health officials. The school, Kafr Qasem in Beach camp, had been sheltering displaced families. Among the deceased was Majed Saleh, the director of the Hamas-run Public Works and Housing ministry.
Israel's military confirmed the strike, stating that it targeted militants operating from the compound and utilized aerial surveillance to minimize civilian casualties. Hamas, however, has continually rejected claims that it uses civilian buildings for military purposes.
The incident has added to an escalating series of violent encounters, including separate airstrikes in central and southern Gaza, bringing Sunday's death toll to 16. Residents in Rafah reported Israeli tanks advancing and taking strategic positions, complicating ceasefire negotiations. Additionally, Gaza's health ministry has flagged potential halts in hospital services due to shortages, heightening the region's humanitarian crisis.
