Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to Inaugurate Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is set to inaugurate a two-day conference for the India region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association on Monday. The event is aimed at discussing the role of legislative bodies in achieving sustainable and inclusive development, according to a statement from the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
The conference will see the participation of about 46 presiding officers, including four chairpersons, 25 speakers, three deputy chairpersons, and 14 deputy speakers from various state and Union Territory legislatures. The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association's India region, established in 2004, comprises 31 member branches, including the Indian Parliament and 30 state and Union Territory legislatures.
Prior to the conference, a meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association's India region executive committee will be held. The discussions are expected to enhance collaboration and exchange of best practices among legislative bodies to foster sustainable and inclusive development.
