In a significant development, Assam Police have arrested 15 individuals, including three women, in connection with a plot by the banned ULFA(I) to trigger serial blasts on Independence Day. The operation, carried out in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), marks a major breakthrough.
According to Assam Police Chief Public Relations Officer Pranabjyoti Goswami, the arrests were made after coordinated raids in different parts of the state. 'Incriminating facts have been untethered after preliminary interrogation of the apprehended persons,' he stated.
The investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in planting explosive devices at 24 locations. Police unearthed 'bomb-like substances' from at least 10 places, including Guwahati. The entire operation called into question the efficacy of the state's intelligence wing, as the bombs were discovered only after ULFA(I) made an email claim.
