Surging Conflict: Hezbollah Rocket Barrage Escalates Tensions with Israel

Hezbollah launched over 100 rockets into northern Israel on Sunday amid escalating tensions. Israel responded with hundreds of strikes on Lebanon, with civilian casualties reported on both sides. This marks a significant escalation in conflict, already affected by ongoing strife in Gaza and intermittent attacks over the past months.

Hezbollah launched an intense rocket barrage early Sunday, targeting a wider and deeper area of northern Israel, including areas near Haifa. This follows months of escalating tensions, as Israel retaliated with hundreds of strikes on Lebanon, setting off air raid sirens and sending thousands into shelters.

In response to the attacks, the Israeli military confirmed strikes on around 400 militant sites in southern Lebanon. Lt Col Nadav Shoshani stated these efforts had thwarted a larger attack. Civilians across northern Israel spent the night and morning in bomb shelters, as hospitals began moving operations to protected areas.

Amid continued hostilities, Israel raided the West Bank bureau of Al-Jazeera, accusing the broadcaster of serving militant groups. The escalation follows the war in Gaza that began with Hamas' attack on Israel, resulting in numerous casualties and hostages on both sides. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with efforts for a cease-fire repeatedly stalling.
