Elderly Couple Killed in Suspected Drunk Driving Incident Near Temple
An elderly couple in Kanpur was killed by an SUV suspected to be involved in a drunk driving case near a temple. The vehicle, carrying three people, reversed into the couple, killing them instantly. The driver, Rajesh Kumar Tiwari, has been arrested and will be produced before a court.

In a grievous case of suspected drunk driving, an elderly couple tragically lost their lives near an Anandeshwar temple in Kanpur when an SUV reversed over them, police reported. The incident prompted an immediate arrest.
The SUV, carrying three individuals, had liquor bottles discovered inside, suggesting intoxication. The couple's son, Lakhan Singh, lodged a complaint after the vehicle fatally struck his parents, Sita Ram (70) and Shanti Devi (65), while they were resting outside the temple.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Dinesh Tripathi, detailed that the driver fled the scene but was promptly identified through CCTV footage. Rajesh Kumar Tiwari, aged 45, was apprehended and faces charges under sections 105 and 352 of the BNS. He is set to be presented before the court on Sunday.
