The Allahabad High Court on Saturday sought the DNA report of the foetus aborted by the survivor in the Ayodhya rape case.

In a hearing concerning the bail of 71-year-old accused Moeed, Justice Pankaj Bhatia of the Lucknow bench ordered the Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory to submit the report within a week.

The accused contends that he has been falsely implicated due to political reasons and claims no documents have been provided to him. Contrarily, Additional Advocate General VK Shahi submitted that the case is of grave nature, involving a minor victim.

Following the incident, the victim became pregnant and, after her abortion, a sample was sent for DNA testing. After hearing arguments from both parties, the court emphasized the urgency and significance of obtaining the DNA test report of the foetus.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for September 30. Uttar Pradesh Police had arrested bakery owner Moeed and his employee on July 30 from the Pura Kalandar area in Ayodhya district concerning the rape case. In the UP Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that the accused is affiliated with the Samajwadi Party.
