The opposition Congress called for a bandh on Saturday in response to the deteriorating law and order situation in Chhattisgarh. Despite the call, transport services continued without disruption, and most businesses functioned normally.
The Congress leadership pointed to incidents such as arson in Loharidih village and the custodial death of an accused to justify the bandh. State Congress president Deepak Baij led a motorcycle rally in Raipur, urging shopkeepers to down their shutters.
However, the Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce did not support the bandh, and most shops in Raipur resumed business by the afternoon. Baij accused the Vishnu Deo Sai government of failing to ensure public safety and demanded the sacking of Home Minister Vijay Sharma.
