A sub-inspector in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district was suspended after a video of a man tied to a window at a local police station went viral on social media, an official disclosed on Saturday.
The footage shows a tea seller, tied to a window grill with a stick between his neck and hands at Multai police station.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Nischal Jharia stated that following the video's circulation, sub-inspector Sunil Sareyam was suspended after a formal complaint was filed by victim Ajay Farkade.
Jharia mentioned that a thorough probe by a gazetted officer has been ordered, with further disciplinary actions pending the investigation's findings.
Ajay Farkade, who operates a tea and snack stall at the Multai bus stand, described how police picked him up on the night of September 18. He alleged that they immobilized and beat him on suspicion of drug trafficking, despite his protests of innocence.
