Election Commission to Assess Poll Preparedness in Maharashtra and Jharkhand

The Election Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, is scheduled to visit Maharashtra and Jharkhand next week to assess the two states' readiness for upcoming assembly polls, sources revealed on Saturday.
According to the sources, the commission will be in Jharkhand on September 23-24 and in Maharashtra on September 27-28. Unlike the previous elections where Maharashtra and Haryana went to the polls simultaneously, this time, the panel opted to decouple the elections in these two states.
The commission is also considering holding the Jharkhand assembly polls together with Maharashtra this time. Additionally, Haryana will go to the polls on October 5, and Delhi's assembly elections are slated for February. Maharashtra's legislative assembly term ends on November 26, while Jharkhand's lasts until January 5.
