Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday strongly defended his political secretary, P Sasi, against persistent attacks from Left independent MLA P V Anvar.

The CM rebuked Anvar for holding press conferences to criticise Sasi and ADGP M R Ajithkumar, noting that Anvar has a Congress, not a Leftist background.

Vijayan affirmed that Sasi, a CPI(M) state committee member, was executing his duties per party directives and dismissed any accusations of wrongdoing. He condemned demands for investigations into these claims.

Anvar's continued criticism has kept the Chief Minister's Office uneasy. On Friday, Anvar accused Sasi of creating delays in a Vigilance probe into Ajithkumar's alleged bribery and wealth misappropriation.

Vijayan stressed that Sasi addresses complaints based on due process. He condemned illegal demands and criticised Anvar for not approaching the party first with his allegations.

Countering gold smuggling allegations, the CM cited significant police seizures: 147.79 kg of gold and Rs 122.5 crore in hawala money over three years, primarily through Karipur Airport. Vijayan assured that all allegations will be investigated and culprits prosecuted.
