The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has called for responses from the Centre, Uttar Pradesh's forest and environment department, and other relevant authorities over allegations of environmental violations by a real estate developer in Noida.
The tribunal was reviewing a petition from residents of Jaypee Wishtown, located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, who accused Jaypee Infratech Limited of making unauthorized changes to the township, violating environmental norms.
An NGT bench led by Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava noted that the township, located on the Yamuna riverbed near the Okhla Bird Sanctuary, involved illegal tree felling and unauthorized commercial construction. The tribunal has scheduled a hearing for November 23, requesting affidavits from the respondents.
