Egyptian President Stands Against Regional Escalation After Lebanon Blasts

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi declared to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken that Cairo rejects any efforts to escalate tensions in the region, reaffirming Egypt's support for Lebanon in the aftermath of the pager blasts, according to an Egyptian presidency statement on Wednesday.

The blasts resulted in the death of at least nine individuals and injuries to nearly 3,000 when pagers used by Hezbollah members exploded simultaneously across Lebanon on Tuesday. "The President affirmed Egypt's rejection of attempts to escalate the conflict and expand its scope regionally, emphasizing the need for all parties to act responsibly, while reiterating Egypt's support for Lebanon," the statement continued.

Blinken's visit to Egypt aims to advance efforts towards achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and to strengthen bilateral ties with Cairo.
