The government announced on Wednesday an increased wheat allocation for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) starting from October. The move aims to stabilize wheat prices.
Highlighting the Modi 3.0 government's 100-day achievements, Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra stated that a ministerial committee has approved an additional 3.5 million tonnes of wheat for PMGKAY.
This increased allocation will continue until March 2025, potentially adjusting the wheat-rice ratio under the scheme. However, Chopra acknowledged that the new quantity will still be 1-2 million tonnes short of the usual allocations. The allocation may be further reviewed based on future developments.
