In a major development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) uncovered several crucial documents during a nearly 20-hour-long search operation at the residences and nursing home of TMC MLA Sudipto Roy. The probe is part of an ongoing investigation into financial irregularities at the RG Kar hospital.
The operation began early Tuesday at Roy's properties in Sithi and an adjoining nursing home. ED sleuths left around 2 am on Wednesday, transporting a boxful of documents. 'Some important case-related documents have been seized,' an officer said, adding that they are investigating whether Roy engaged in any financial transactions or dealings with the hospital.
Besides Roy's properties, the ED also raided the house of a medicine dealer and four other locations. This investigation comes on the heels of the CBI's arrest of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the state-run hospital, along with three accomplices. The financial irregularities came to light following the rape and murder of a woman doctor on duty at the hospital.
