A 10-year-old student attending a Japanese school in southern China was attacked on Wednesday, prompting immediate response from authorities.
The student was stabbed by a man approximately 200 meters from the Shenzhen Japanese School's gate. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed the incident during a daily briefing.
Following the attack, the injured student was rapidly transported to a hospital and is currently receiving intensive medical care. The attacker was apprehended at the scene, and investigations are underway, Lin added.
Motive behind the attack remains unclear, but the Japanese Embassy has alerted its citizens to remain cautious. This incident follows a series of knife attacks in recent months, including a lethal attack at a school bus stop in Suzhou and an assault on U.S. university instructors in Jilin.
The Japanese Consulate in Guangzhou, overseeing Shenzhen, has called for heightened preventive measures.
