The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is examining the delayed action by Tala Police in seizing crucial evidence in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. The CBI officials highlighted that Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect, had his involvement established a day after the crime on August 10, yet his belongings were not seized for two days.

Roy, a police volunteer, was captured by CCTV entering the seminar hall where the murder occurred at 4.03 am. Despite the evidence, officials noted that Tala Police took unnecessarily long, potentially compromising the evidence. Following an order from the Calcutta High Court, the CBI took over the case on August 14 and has since arrested former principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala Police station officer in-charge Abhijit Mondal, alleging their evasive conduct and intentions to tamper with evidence.

The investigation now extends to exploring potential criminal conspiracy amongst Roy, Ghosh, and Mondal. The CBI will scrutinize call records, confront suspects with the CCTV footage, and analyze extracted mobile data to uncover any attempted cover-ups. Additionally, Ghosh's absence from the crime scene and Mondal's facilitation of a hurried cremation are under scrutiny. The trainee doctor was found dead with severe injuries in the seminar hall after her night shift on August 9.
