In an unsettling escalation, the Iran-aligned group Hezbollah has accused Israel of detonating pagers across Lebanon in a sophisticated operation. This accusation follows a series of targeted assassinations against Hezbollah and Hamas leaders since the Gaza conflict erupted on October 7.
Among those targeted was Fuad Shukr, a top commander killed in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon's capital suburbs on July 30. Shukr had been a significant military figure in Hezbollah since its inception over four decades ago. Additionally, Israeli strikes claimed the lives of other senior commanders, including Mohammed Nasser and Taleb Abdallah.
Hamas leaders were not spared; Mohammed Deif was reportedly killed by Israel after an intelligence assessment in Khan Younis, Gaza. Meanwhile, Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran, and Saleh al-Arouri, founder of Hamas military wing, died in an Israeli drone strike in Beirut. Both groups hold Israel responsible for these targeted killings.
