The opposition Congress in Kerala has called on the ruling Left government to examine the accuracy of figures used to secure funds from the Centre for disaster relief in Wayanad. Allegations have surfaced suggesting that the figures may have been inflated to obtain more money.
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala pressed the government to disclose what was included in their affidavit to the Kerala High Court about the Wayanad relief efforts. This comes in response to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's denial of corruption allegations made by the BJP and IUML concerning the relief expenditure.
Vijayan dismissed media reports claiming exorbitant spending, attributing them to misinterpretations of the state's memorandum to the union government. Chennithala emphasized the need for honesty and collective action to secure necessary funds as major landslides have devastated Wayanad, resulting in over 200 deaths.
