Eight individuals have been rescued after a fishing boat capsized off South Korea's west coast, according to Yonhap news agency, citing the coast guard.

President Yoon Suk Yeol was briefed on the incident Monday morning and ordered the oceans and fisheries minister along with the head of the coast guard to deploy all available personnel and equipment for the rescue operation, his office reported.

The 35-ton fishing vessel capsized near Gunsan city in North Jeolla province at approximately 7:36 a.m., prompting the immediate launch of a helicopter and a patrol vessel for the rescue mission.
