A local court has remanded the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, and Tala Police Station officer-in-charge, Abhijit Mondal, to CBI custody until September 17. This decision follows their connection to the rape and murder of a doctor at the state-run hospital.
Both Ghosh and Mondal were arrested by the CBI, with charges including evidence tampering and criminal conspiracy. The central agency presented them in court, arguing that the duo played crucial roles in the crime. The CBI's investigation revealed a potential larger conspiracy, linking both men to significant actions in obstructing justice.
Mondal and Ghosh are accused of delaying the registration of the FIR and attempting to downplay the incident. The CBI pointed out that the police should have treated the incident as a suo motu case from the outset. Ghosh, already in custody for a corruption case, is said to have instructed Mondal on handling the case. The body of the postgraduate trainee was found on August 9, leading to the arrests.
