NATO Chiefs Affirm Ukraine’s Right to Strike Deep Into Russia
NATO's military leaders voiced strong support for Ukraine's right to strike deep into Russia for strategic gains, aligning with a number of US allies. However, the Biden administration hesitates, citing weapon restrictions. The discussions involve the legal and ethical aspects of using American-made long-range weapons against Russia.

NATO's military leadership emphasized Ukraine's sovereign right to launch strikes deep within Russia to gain a combat advantage, a stance supported by several US allies. Adm Rob Bauer articulated that nations have the inherent right to defend themselves beyond their borders.
Bauer's comments, made during NATO's annual military meeting, contrast with the Biden administration's reluctance to allow Ukraine to use American-made long-range weapons for such strikes. Lt Gen. Karel Rehka of the Czech Armed Forces mirrored Bauer's sentiment, indicating their nation imposes no restrictions on the weaponry provided to Kyiv.
President Joe Biden is contemplating permitting the use of US-manufactured components in British Storm Shadow missiles for expanded strikes in Russia, a decision pending further evaluation. Meanwhile, NATO continues to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine, amidst concerns of Russian expansionism.
