In a major turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, with rape and murder while he remains in judicial custody for a corruption case. An official from the probe agency disclosed the developments on Saturday.
Additionally, Abhijit Mondal, the officer in charge of Tala Police Station, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the rape and murder of an on-duty woman medic at the hospital, which falls under Tala Police Station's jurisdiction.
Mondal was questioned extensively before his arrest, and both he and Ghosh faced charges of evidence destruction and other offenses. The woman's semi-nude body was found on August 9 within the hospital premises, escalating the investigation handled by the CBI on orders from the Calcutta High Court.
